The film shows an apocalyptic metaphor of the contemporary world : humans are afraid of otherness, build sci-fi-like protection domes around their homes and roam outside their domain only to hunt. Preying on the creatures from the outside turns out to be the easy way to go, as they are friendly and weak.
Why so friendly? That’s what Bobby and Suzie, the gas mask children, will learn from his own adventures outside the dome.
